portfolio online!

goat1
Well, I put up my portfolio online. Check it out! A lot of it is old stuff because I haven’t had a chance to scan in anything not purely computer-created. Anyway, even though it’s in the process of being completed, it’s totally online! So seriously! Give it a look and let me know what you think.

8 years of JK’s life condensed

Lots of people do this picture-a-day thing, but THIS guy has done it every day for eight whole years. Pretty amazing.

Thanks Design for Mankind.

my new wool has arrived!

dscn0054My new order of merino wool from Alpaca Direct arrived today!  4 ounces of Ecru and 4 ounces of bitter chocolate merino alpaca wool.  I didn’t actually realize that it was going to be from alpaca until it got here.  It’s beautiful and soft and lovely and I can’t wait to spin it.

Coraline

coralineWell, it’s probably beside the point to tell you to go see Coraline. At least in my corner of the world, everyone is already talking about it. With good reason though. Seriously. It is one of the most amazing movies I’ve ever seen– either that, or one of the most real dreams I’ve ever had. What an odd experience.

Anyway, it was a totally inexplicable experience BUT EVEN MORE CAPTIVATING are all the production stories bouncing about since the realease. We were lucky enough to see the film in 3D, and I didn’t learn til afterwards that the entire thing had been shot in stop motion. To do that for a 3D film requires 512 shots PER SECOND. What?! Insane!

Add that onto the fact that the clothes worn in the movie were hand-knitted on teeny tiny needles (yeah, including Coraline’s coveted tiny gloves), and you, sir, have a winner

Oh, PS. The Coraline website is also really fully gorgeous fun.

something amazing

john-fellows

It’s the linotype work of John Fellows! I’ve been a little bit in love with linotype ever since Loyola had an Amos Kennedy show last fall. (Margie and I met him- he is nuts and I will post about him later). I read about John Fellows on Wooster Collective (yeah Nick, you were right, it’s the best). He uses found materials to print on! How cool is that. I’m especially digging the airmail envelopes above. Seriously, his work really makes me want to learn how to print.

Snow Leopard Enterprises

snow-leopard-enterprises
Ok, so the Snow Leopard Trust is an organization working to save snow leopards, which is cool enough. But I am really digging Snow Leopard Enterprises, which partners with women in Central Asia to produce really cool toys (yak-i-sacs!), yarn crafts, and other awesome things (like camel yarn, which I totally want to buy). This is just such a cool idea. Agreed?

Yes, I'll take all of those please
